General Laboratory Procedures
In order to ensure the safety of all parties involved, the following lab
procedures will be in effect for all chemistry classes:
-
A handout will be given to all students explaining the laboratory procedure.
Students will be asked to read the handout and be prepared to discuss
it during the demonstration of the lab experiment.
-
All experiments will be demonstrated 2-3 days prior to the day of the lab.
A pre-quiz may be given to determine student’s readiness to complete
lab.
-
Students will usually be asked to come prepared to the lab experiment with
their pre-lab assignments and a pen/pencil.
Appropriate dress is also a requirement.
-
It is expected that students conduct themselves in a safe, responsible
manner while in the laboratory. All
safety rules stated here or on the safety rule sheet will be enforced.
Any student not displaying such behavior will be removed from the
laboratory and sent to the office. A
grade of zero will be assigned for that particular lab experiment.
-
The instructor reserves the right to change lab or quiz re-take times and/or
days with advance notice to students.
-
Any student missing a laboratory experiment due to absence will be required
to make up the lab after school on the Friday following the original lab
day. Any student with an extended
absence may be given an alternative assignment or be excused from the lab at
the teacher’s discretion.
In the case of a student not participating in lab due to infractions of the
above procedures students will be allowed to make-up the lab for HALF credit
after school on the FRIDAY following the original lab day. If they fail to
make-up the lab on that day, a grade of zero will be given for that assignment.
