Eagles Open Season with 6-3 Win   (November 27, 2009)

Parma - Sean McBride and Mike Konyesni each scored hat tricks for the Eagles in a 6-3 victory over Elyria Catholic in the season opener for both teams.  Casey Jones (3 assists) and Kyle Swansegar (2 assists) were the other mutli-point players for the Eagles in the opening game of the Bruce Anderson Memorial Tournament.  Dan McBride picked up the win in goal after stopping 11 Panthers shots.  North Olmsted will play Massillon Jackson tomorrow in the tournament, but the game will be played at North Olmsted Recreation Complex.

Eagles Take Two on Day Two (November 28, 2009)

North Olmsted, Parma - North Olmsted swept two games in the Anderson Tournament on Saturday to start the season 3-0.  In the morning contest against Massillon Jackson, the host Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead and coasted to a 8-3 win behind goals from Mike Konyesni (2), Sean McBride (2), Mike Minch (2), Ricky Henley, and Casey Jones.  Returning to Ries Ice Rink for the evening game, North Olmsted out shot the host Normandy Invaders 38-18 in posting a 5-1 victory.  Ryan Sutton scored twice for the Eagles, and Sean McBride, Thomas Mooney, and Kyle Swansegar added single tallies.  Dan McBride won both games between the pipes for North Olmsted while stopping 29 of 33 shots.

Eagles' Comeback Defeats Bees 3-2 (November 29, 2009)

Parma - Mike Minch and Kyle Swansegar scored 12 seconds apart late in the third period and North Olmsted hung on for 3-2 win over Brecksville Sunday night.  The win sends the Eagles into the Championship of the Bruce Anderson Tournament versus Elyria Catholic.  The Panthers defeated Normandy earlier in the day to earn a berth in the finals.  Thomas Mooney opened the scoring for North Olmsted, but Brecksville scored the next two goals and held the lead until the final six minutes of the contest.  The turning point in the game was North Olmsted's penalty kill of a two minute 5-on-3 Brecksville power play late in the second period.

Eagles win Anderson Tournament in Style (November 30, 2009)

Parma - Casey Jones' overtime goal lifted North Olmsted to a 5-4 win over Elyria Catholic to win the Bruce Anderson Memorial Tournament Monday night.  The goal completed a hat trick for Jones and capped the Eagles' second comeback victory in a row in the tournament.  After taking a 2-0 lead midway through the second period, North Olmsted took a series of penalties that lead to three straight Elyria Catholic power play goals.  The Panthers added another tally early in the third period to extend their lead to 4-2, but North Olmsted added two power play goals of their own to tie the game and force the overtime period.  Sean McBride earned Tournament MVP honors, while brother Dan McBride won the Outstanding Goaltender Award.

Quick Strikes Propel Eagles past Shaker Hts. (December 4, 2009)

Shaker Hts. - Four first period goals helped North Olmsted open GCHSHL play with a 7-4 victory over Shaker Hts. Friday night at Thornton Park.  Mike Konyesni and Kyle Swansegar scored 52 seconds apart and the Eagles lead 2-0 less than two minutes into the contest.  After the Red Raiders had cut the North Olmsted lead to 2-1, Sean McBride and Casey Jones scored 18 seconds apart to give the Eagles a lead they would not relinquish.  Ryan Sutton scored the only goal of the second period, and Konyesni and McBride added their second goals of the game to complete the Eagle scoring.  Dan McBride stopped 27 shots to earn his sixth win of the season in goal for North Olmsted.  

Explorers Skate Around, Though Flat Eagles  (December 6, 2009)

North Olmsted - Hudson skated into North Olmsted Recreation Center and took a 6-3 decision from the host Eagles.  After a sluggish first two periods, the Explorers controlled much of the third period and answered Ryan Sutton's game-tying goal with the game winner at the 9:37 mark.  Sean McBride and Michael Shackleton scored the other North Olmsted goals, with Shackleton's being the first of his career.  The Eagles finished the weekend 1-1 in GCHSHL play, and will participate in the Benedictine Holiday Tournament next weekend.

Eagles Fall to Bulldogs 2-1  (December 11, 2009)

Cleveland Hts. - Despite out shooting Olmsted Falls 30 to 9, North Olmsted lost their opener to the Benedictine Holiday Tournament Friday night.  After falling behind 2-0 on two power play goals, the Eagles scored in the second period to trim the deficit to 2-1.  However, North Olmsted could not score in the third period and had the tying goal waved off in the final two minutes.

Solid Saturday Nets Eagles Two Wins (December 12, 2009)

Cleveland Hts. - North Olmsted allowed only one goal in two games in defeating Holy Name (5-1) and Cincinnati Moeller (3-0) Saturday in the Benedictine Holiday Tournament.  Despite the two wins, the Eagles did not make the Championship Game due to a head-to-head tiebreaker with Olmsted Falls.  Mike Konyesni (2 goals), Sean McBride (2 goals), and Ryan Sutton (1 goal) lead the charge against Holy Name, while North Olmsted's defense gave up only 12 shots on goal.  Konyesni was back at it in the nightcap scoring two goals and registering a +3 rating.  Casey Jones added an power play goal and Dan McBride made 13 saves in goal for the shutout.

Shoremen No Match for Eagles' Offense (December 20, 2009)

Rocky River - Mike Konyesni scored three goals (2 power play) as North Olmsed defeated Avon Lake 7-1 in a GCHSHL contest Sunday night at Hamilton Ice Arena.  Kyle Swansegar added two goals, one assist, and had a plus-3 rating for the game, while Brandon Schmitt chipped in two assists and a plus-3 night as well.  The Eagles were strong on special teams in the victory, scoring on three of six power play chances and killing off all three Avon Lake power plays.

Eagles Capture Third Straight Trinity Christmas Tournament  (December 28, 2009)

Garfield Hts. - On the strength of eight power play goals in the Championship Game, North Olmsted defeated Mentor 10-0 to win their third Trinity Christmas Tournament in a row.  Seven different Eagles scored in the contest, including the first career goals for Tim Musat and Brandon Schmitt.  North Olmsted earned their way into the Championship after losing the opening game of the tournament to Mentor 5-3 by defeating Trinity and Normandy by identical 5-0 scores.  Dan McBride picked up two shutout wins in goal for the Eagles, as they captured their second tournament of the season.

Diligence Pays Off in 4-2 Victory over Cardinals (January 2, 2010)

North Olmsted - After giving up two breakaway goals in the first period, North Olmsted methodically scored four goals in the last 30 minutes to defeat Mentor in a GCHSHL game Saturday.  The Eagles received two goals from Mike Minch, and single tallies from Captains Casey Jones and Sean McBride to defeat Mentor for the second time in seven days.  The third Eagle Captain, Goalie Dan McBride, made 20 saves to earn his 13th win of the season.

Eagles Shutout Toledo Whitmer 5-0  (January 3, 2010)

North Olmsted - The Eagles finished off a successful weekend by defeating visiting Toledo Whitmer 5-0 Sunday afternoon, spoiling the return of former Eagle Mark Waddell as coach of the Panthers.  Sean McBride (2 goals), Kyle Swansegar, Mike Minch, and Mike Konyesni all scored for North Olmsted as Dan McBride earned his fifth shutout in goal.  For the game, the Eagles out shot Whitmer 34-14.

Late Rally Comes Up Short in 2-1 Loss to Mustangs  (January 9, 2010)

North Olmsted - Despite a late goal by Mike Konyesni and a few good chances and the end, North Olmsted lost to Strongsville 2-1 in a GCHSHL contest Saturday afternoon.  The Mustangs lead 1-0 after one period and increased the lead to two after capitalizing on a goal mouth scramble as an Eagle penalty was expiring.  Konyesni scored on a set play on a pass from Sean McBride with three minutes left in the third period, but North Olmsted could not net the equalizer and saw their GCHSHL record fall to 3-2. 

Eagles' Frustrations Continue at Southwestern Conference Tournament (January 17, 2010)

North Olmsted - North Olmsted's recent tough luck at the SWC Tournament continued as the Eagles bowed out to Brecksville 2-0 Sunday night despite out shooting the Bees 27-17.  North Olmsted had previously defeated Olmsted Falls 2-1 Saturday and lost to Amherst 3-1 Sunday morning.  Sean McBride scored two goals in the tournament while Kyle Swansegar provided one of the highlights for North Olmsted with the game winning goal against Olmsted Falls late in the third period.  The Eagles will now finish the season with five league games and one non-league game against Chagrin Falls on Senior Night.

Offense Sputters in 3-0 Loss to Shaker Hts.  (January 23, 2010)

North Olmsted - Shaker Hts. scored the only goals in the contest after a scoreless first period to take a 3-0 victory over North Olmsted in a GCHSHL contest. 

Power Play Sparks 5-1 Win at Mentor (January 29, 2010)

Mentor - North Olmsted scored three power play goals on a five minute major in the third period to defeat Mentor 5-1 in a GCHSL game.  Casey Jones and Sean McBride scored second period goals to give the Eagles the lead after the Cardinals had taken a one goal lead after the first period.  Ricky Henley had two of the power play goals, while Tim Musat added the other to salt away the victory.  For the game, the Eagles out shot Mentor 33 to 7.

Eagles Clinch Share of Red East Crown (January 31, 2010)

Strongsville - North Olmsted clinched a least a share of the the GCHSHL Red East Division Title with a 5-2 win over Hudson Sunday.  The Eagles lead 2-0 after two periods, but the Explorers tied the game with two goals early in the third period.  Mike Minch, Kyle Swansegar, and Sean McBride scored the next three goals, however, and the Eagles pulled away for the win.  McBride's empty net goal completed a hat trick, and brother Dan McBride picked up the win in goal with 21 saves.

Tie with Elyria Catholic Gives Eagles Outright Title (February 6, 2010)

North Olmsted - Mike Minch's power play late in the third period tied the game with Elyria Catholic, and eight minutes of overtime remained scoreless as North Olmsted tied the Panthers 3-3.  With the point gained from the tie, the Eagles earned the outright Red East Division Title and the sixth seed in the Baron Cup this week.  North Olmsted will face Walsh Jesuit at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at Brooklyn in the first round of the annual City Championship.  Dan McBride made 42 saves to keep the Eagles in the game with the Panthers, as the teams traded goals throughout the game.

Seniors Go Out in Style with Victory over Chagrin Falls (February 7, 2010)

North Olmsted - The six seniors on the North Olmsted hockey team wanted to out with a victory in their last home game of their careers , and thanks to a third period goal from junior Mike Konyesni, that's exactly what they did. Konyesni's goal broke a scoreless tie, and the Eagles killed of a late Tigers power play to seal the victory in front of senior goalie Dan McBride (20 saves).  The other seniors playing their last home game in front of the North Olmsted faithful were Sean McBride, Kyle Swansegar, Chad Cullinan, Mike Minch, and Thomas Mooney.

Third Period Dooms Eagles in Baron Cup Loss (February 11, 2010)

Brooklyn - North Olmsted stayed with Walsh Jesuit for two periods, but a two goal third lead the Warriors to a 4-2 victory over the Eagles in the first round of the Baron Cup Thursday night.  Casey Jones and Chad Cullinan supplied the goals for North Olmsted and Dan McBride made 21 saves in goal.

Ten Goal First Leads Eagles Past Lakewood (February 15, 2010)

Brooklyn - Alex Arendec and Nick DeJoy scored their first career goals in leading North Olmsted to a 10-0 victory over Lakewood in an opening round game in the OHSAA Tournament.  Tim Musat and Casey Jones each scored two goals, with Sean McBride, Ryan Sutton, Mike Minch, and Mike Konyesni each adding a goal.  The McBride brothers combined in goal for the shutout, with Dan stopping two shots in the first and Sean making five saves in the second in his debut in goal for the Eagles.

Eagles Hold Off Elyria Catholic 6-4  (February 20, 2010)

Brooklyn - North Olmsted roared out to a 4-1 advantage in the second period and withstood an Elyria Catholic comeback effort to advance with a 6-4 win in the OHSAA Tournament.  Casey Jones lead the Eagles with two power play goals, and Kyle Swansegar added a key insurance goal while shorthanded late in the third period to seal the victory.  Mike Minch, Mike Konyesni, and Chad Cullinan added the other goals for North Olmsted, and Dan McBride delivered a strong 36 save effort in goal to preserve the win.

Padua Too Much for Eagles in Season-Ending Loss  (February 27, 2010)

Brooklyn - Ryan Sutton opened the scoring for the Eagles in the first minute of the contest, but the Bruins scored five unanswered goals in an OHSAA Sectional Final Saturday afternoon.  The game was tied 1-1 after one period, but Padua tallied four times in the middle frame to effectively end the season for North Olmsted.  Dan McBride made 25 saves in goal for North Olmsted to close out his only season as a goalie for the Eagles.
