Welcome SITES Class of 2009!

 This dedicated group of students will be joining a long standing tradition of service and learning in the nationally recognized SITES Program. They are already at their service sites throughout North Olmsted, Rocky River, Fairview Park, Westlake, North Ridgeville, CCC, and  Cleveland. The Class of 09 appreciates the support of the community and promises to be a positive asset to the area.

Did You Know?

  • North Olmsted High School is one of only 6 schools in Ohio designated as a state model for service-learning. Our teachers help develop new programs across the state and train educators and community leaders at statewide meetings.
  • Each SITES student received the prestigious Presidential Volunteer Service Award at a ceremony in May. Principal Paul Sink presented the certificates and pins on behalf of the White House.
  • A new Living History program is being developed in conjunction with the North Olmsted Senior Center, the Landmarks Commission, Olmsted Historical Society, and the Chamber of Commerce. Senior Citizens from North Olmsted will be interviewed about local history and traditions in an effort to preserve the past.
  • SITES is a college-preparatory inter-curricular program comprised of Honors and General level studies in English and history.
  • Case Western Reserve University's Mandel Center conducted a study of NOHS graduates and hound that SITES students are more acclimated to the college environment than other NOHS graduates and SITES graduates are more prone to volunteer as a result of their participation in the program.
  • The average SITES student spends 38 hours in preparation and reflection for special events, 50 hours of direct service at special events, 150 hours in direct service, 40 hours in preparation and reflection at weekly sites, and 20 hours of service at short-term projects.
  • Eight teachers have served the SITES Program: Robert Pierce, Christine (Kilbane) Pierce, Jeffrey Zullo, Amy (Caldwell) Fowles, Vicki Gummow, Mark Hollars, Cheryl Huffer, and Julie McCabe.
  • The SITES Advisory Board consists of service agency representatives, parents, school board members, school administrators, city government officials, community leaders, students, and teachers.
  • The Heifer Project International will be donating a sheep to a developing village using funds collected from class donations. the livestock donated through this agency provide clothing, food, and lambs for many generations.
