Let's Hit The Weights!

Introduction

The purpose of this study is to essentially determine which gender works out more often on average, men or women. Since I enjoy spending time at the gym and I have seen a suprisingly vast amount of people at the gym, I was curious to see which sex spends more time working out. A popular question that I have been asked is how many days I spend at the gym in any given week. Hearing other people's answers suprised me, and I asked myself how different can the answers get? On average, is there a difference between the number of days spent at a gym between men and women?

Abstract

I wanted to discover if there was a difference between the average amount of days spent at the gym between men and women. I decided to ask my questions at the North Olmsted Rec. Center, where I currently work out. I planned to ask every third man and every third woman that walked through the door until I had asked forty of each. Although sometimes, some people decided not to answer. I had to respond by filling in the data sheet with a one, because I knew for sure that the person I asked was at the gym for at least that one day that week. After finding the two means of the two data sets, I performed a t-test to compare the two means. My null hypothesis was finding no difference between the two means. My alternative hypothesis was finding that the first mean (Men) was larger than the second mean (Women). The t value that I received equals 10.197, and the p value that I received equals 7.343. After discovering  this, we are able to reject the null hypothesis at any reasonable significance level since P is greater than alpha. Therefore, there is sufficient evidence to suggest that the average amount of days spent at the gym is greater for men opposed to women.

  • Hungry?

Since you're working out, all the calories you have been burning need to be replaced, so you need to eat more.
